Discipleship is what we’ve been called to do. It’s part of our great commission to go out into the world and make disciples. It’s a challenge that we still have in this modern day that we live in. What is a disciple? Here are three quick definitions of what a disciple is:
1. A Learner
“A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.” (Luke 6:40)
2. A Follower
“As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. ‘Follow me.’ Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.” (Mark 2:14)
Jesus asked one time…it’s up to us if we want to follow him…he won’t force us to.
3. A Reproducer
It should continue after us. It should not be a means to an end.
Main question of this blog. How can you recognize a disciple? Many Rabbi’s would say, “when you were coverd with the dust of your Rabbi.” That means you had to follow your Rabbi so close that his dust would kick up on your face…and that’s how people would recognize you. I wonder if any of us are following our leaders that closely. Who do you follow? Can people recognize you?
