Another One Bites the Dust…

passion2

Discipleship is what we’ve been called to do. It’s part of our great commission to go out into the world and make disciples. It’s a challenge that we still have in this modern day that we live in. What is a disciple? Here are three quick definitions of what a disciple is:
1. A Learner
“A student is not above his teacher, but everyone who is fully trained will be like his teacher.” (Luke 6:40)

2. A Follower
“As he walked along, he saw Levi son of Alphaeus sitting at the tax collector’s booth. ‘Follow me.’ Jesus told him, and Levi got up and followed him.” (Mark 2:14)
Jesus asked one time…it’s up to us if we want to follow him…he won’t force us to.

3. A Reproducer
It should continue after us. It should not be a means to an end.

Main question of this blog. How can you recognize a disciple? Many Rabbi’s would say, “when you were coverd with the dust of your Rabbi.” That means you had to follow your Rabbi so close that his dust would kick up on your face…and that’s how people would recognize you. I wonder if any of us are following our leaders that closely. Who do you follow? Can people recognize you?

Are You Ordinary?

the_dream_giver
Excerpt from “The Dream Giver” by Bruce Wilkinson:
“Not long ago and not far away, a Nobody named Ordinary lived in the Land of Familar. Everday was pretty much the same for Ordinary. In the morning he got up and went to his usual job. After work, he ate almost the same dinner he’d eaten the night before. Then he sat in his recliner and watched the box that mesmerized most Nobodies on most nights. Sometimes Best Friend came over to join Ordinary in front of the box. Sometimes Ordinary went to his Parents’ and they watched together. For the most part, not much happened in Familiar that hadn’t happened before. Ordinary thought he was content. He found the routines reliable. He blended in with the crowd. And mostly he wanted what he already had. Until the day Ordinary noticed a small, nagging feeling in his heart. And usually when most nobodies didn’t normally expect the unexpected, Ordinary began to wish for it.”
